Oakland University Disc Golf Course Update...
June 27, 2009
![]() |
Well here is what we know; Oakland University is currently developing an 18 hole Disc Golf course right on their home campus. We can prove this rumor because number one, Mr. Minicuci delivered the baskets (picture to left) and two, I just walked the course. We do not have any concrete dates as to when the course will be playable, but it is expected to open somewhere in late July or early August. The school is very enthusiastic about the creation of this course and has even gone as far as putting together a staff to help with the development. This has been a project in the making for the last four years, but the hard work has obviously paid off. To give you all al little taste, I would say it is similar in length to Firefighters, however the change in elevations throughout the course sets it apart. From just walking the first few holes, I would use the term technical is describing how one may get their disc close to the basket. As for the tees, Oakland will be installing Flypads for all of the holes. With the tall grasses, heavy vegetation, and rapid cange in elevation, this course may be the best thing to happen to OU since MeadowBrook Music Festival!!! We will provide more information on this subject as it progresses.
New Disc Golf Course Sign @ Firefighters...
June 27, 2009
As many of you have noticed, Firefighters has been given a new sign. Some may not be aware, but this sign has been built, paid, and installed by "you" the discgolf community and several of you need recognition for taking extra time to make it all happen. We would like to thank Scott Bernie Burnham, George Sturm, Nikki Beaubien (painted Stony), Rob Stivers, Brenda Minicuci (painted River Bends & Firefighters), and John Minicuci for their hard work in helping with the signs located at Stony Creek, River Bends, and now at Firefighters. The funds have been provided by the "Course Renovation Fund". This fund is made possible by hosting such events as the Brag Tag Challenge, Brag Tag 50/50, MCCG tournaments 50/50, and the 25th Anniversary disc for the Wednesday night FF league.
Website Downtime...
June 27, 2009
Thank you for your patience! As many of you are aware, over the last several months our site integrity decreased due to various malicious intrusions to our web server. We have migrated our site to a webserver and patched up many of the problems we were experiencing before. We want to continue to grow as a community and provide you with a site where you can communicate and find local disc golf news. I would like to personally thank Bob Branch for taking the time to manage our database and help with the migration. For now we should be all set so enjoy! If you have any questions or concerns regarding the forum or the move to the new server, please feel free to contact me (email on Contact page).
Pictures, Videos, etc...
The current "Courses" link has been updated with many pictures from 2008 and prior years. Nick Rem has been instrumental in taking on this task. The link may be renamed but one thing is for sure, our pictures of the local courses are way out of date. Many people have contacted Nick to get pictures of disc golf events and videos online. Your help in getting more pictures to Nick will surely help. If you have any old images or plan on taking any new pics, feel free to send them to Nick and he will post them accordingly.E-mail pictures and videos: nick@motorcitychaingang.com
