Future events...
The Motor City Chain Gang is currently planning out the 2009 season with the rest of the State representatives. Your president Dan James was at the inaugural meeting Saturday, October 18, 2008 to begin the negotiation process with the other state representatives. The next meeting is scheduled for November 9, 2008. Currently there are over 140 events on the Michigan 2009 schedule. There will be plenty of negotiating to complete the schedule meaning a lot of disc golf events for the players. Meanwhile, back here the UAD (youth) league is off to a great start at Raintree Park. We are currently averaging 27 players a week. Raintree redesign is scheduled to begin the 1st week of November. Firefighters has a pole in the ground where we will get a brand new basket for hole #11. This should also happen the 1st couple of weeks in November. The course fund will be purchasing a new basket for River Bends and hopefully that will be installed before Bobis Saturday Doubles is played there, currently scheduled for November 15, 2008. BSD will be played next on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Starr-Jaycee Park. We are not sure how long we will continue to host Steve's Safari but for now we will play them as long as the players want to. Steve's Safari begins at 1:00 pm at Firefighters and features a random draw doubles format utilizing views of the course many players are not familiar with. Finally, the 7th Annual Turkey Open tournament is next. A flyer is posted below...A Recap of the 2008 Metro Detroit Championship Series...
Congratulations to the 2008 Metroit Detroit Series Champions!Having almost completed my first year back into the "full time" tournament directing role, and the club's first sanctioned events since Bobis was the club president, I am really pleased with how well things turned out this year. Thanks to our many sponsors, more than $1000 in cash and $5000 in merchandise was added to our 4 series events. Our largest cash sponsor, Innova, also helped us a with some huge merchandise packages. Discraft provided nice sponsorship packages, Buffalo Wild Wings came up big for us this year by donating close to $400 in gift certificates and merchandise, J-Bird left his mark on the Gale Vaughn memorial with a very nice package of merch, and Dunhams, Bagger Daves, Red Bull, Chauncey Billups, the Lions, and more contributed with us to make these events very competitive. And the competition was solid. Al Schack got the Spring Fling off to a strong start by tying the long course record at Stony Creek (63), but "Criiter" also got a piece of that record in the second round and took home the win. Ziggy had the hot round to start the FF Classic on a new layout for the extra holes, but Geoff Bennett fought back to take first place that day before the devestating storm blew through ("Take Cover!"). Cory Sharp took a 5 stroke lead after one round at the Gale Vaughn Memorial and that was enough for him to coast to our biggest payout of the year. And the year finished with Daemon Stahlin getting the win, and a piece of the River Bends cource record (62), and a piece of the monstrous progressive ace pool that was also hit by Krystal Fromm! We focussed hard this year on keeping the events running smoothly and fairly without a lot of down time or waiting around for the players. I really wanted to make tournament day to be as enjoyable as possible for the players and I think we did a good job in that regard. Hopefully, YOU did too.

A note from the editor...
The 2008 Metro Detroit Championship Series was greatly enhanced by the strategic use of the infamous "Don-O mini"!
